“Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc., hard and fast. Five or six days per week, mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.   • Whiteboard brief for workout details.
  • Warm-up to prepare for the session.
  • Skill practice related to upcoming movements.

  • The workout itself, done together as a group.
  • Fist bumps, equipment clean-up and workout recap and debrief.

 

CrossFit Jargon: Decoding the Language

Don’t let the jargon put you off, there’s a few phrases that are used regularly in CrossFit so hopefully this will make it easier to understand when you don’t quite understand!

  • Box: A CrossFit gym.
  • Affiliate: An official CrossFit gym affiliated with ‘CrossFit’ (the parent company).
  • Athlete: Anyone who participates in CrossFit workouts regardless of ability.
  • WOD: Workout of the day.
  • AMRAP: As many reps/rounds as possible.
  • EMOM: Every minute on the minute.
  • Tabata: 8 intervals of 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest.
  • Scale/Modify: Adjust movements or work amount for individual needs.
